In a horizontal line across the middle of the photo are a bunch of bats, sleeping.

A crocodile who was nonplussed by human visitors to say the least. Can't you at least open your eyes and act concerned, big guy?
VOLCANO, YO!!! WUT WUT WUT!!!
Yeah, volcano, pretty much. No big.
Volcano! Ta-da!
Volcano! Yowwww!! Par-tay!!!
Heyyyy! Pretty sweet waterfall, eh?? Ehhhh? Am I wrong?? Ehhhh?

I gotta work on that widow's peak. Talk to a barber. Something.

This waterfall is a short walk from Arenal Observatory Lodge.

Would you believe that the Spanish term for "German bakery" is "German bakery?" Who knew?

We had to stop our car for a couple minutes to give this herd of cows a chance to cross the road. Give each and every last one of those things a ticket, officer!
Yeah, you heard me. Shoo!

One of the signs in the background reads "Minnesotan Spoken Here," reflecting the language prowess of Rolf, the proprietor.

Monteverde Cloud Forest Biological Reserve. The three hexagrams indicate that it is sponsored by Exxon. No! Seriously, it says "Centro Cientifico Tropical," but with a new hazardous materials twist.
A female quetzal, the beautiful, elusive, iconic bird of Central America; e.g. it is on the Guatemalan money. Some tourists slog through the damp forest for hours searching for this lovely lady-- we caught her in the parking lot before our tour even started! Woo!
Like the previous quetzal photo, we pulled off this photo of a far-away pit viper by sticking Cathy's digital camera into the eyepiece of our guide's telescope. I said something like "Pfff! That's NEVER gonna work. Oh wait."
If you go to Monteverde, definitely go on a guided tour. There is no way in hell I would have seen this still-as-a-rock, green-on-a-green-background lizard without him. Or any other animal for that matter.
